Biokinetics is the profession concerned with health promotion, the maintenance of physical abilities and final phase rehabilitation, by means of scientifically-based physical activity programme prescription.
Tara van Alphen is a Biokineticist, registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. She has been qualified since 2008 after completing her internship at the Sport Science Institute of South Africa. Tara is a people’s person and enjoys the one-on-one interaction with her clients, be they sports people, the elderly and even children.
Her interests include pre and post op orthopaedic rehabilitation, sports specific injury prevention and rehabilitation, as well as improving ones’ physical well-being and quality of life.

Amanda Cloete Biography
Amanda began Pilates as a teenager to rehabilitation a back and knee injury with brilliant results. This inspired her to study Human movement science B.A. followed by Honours in Biokinetics at Stellenbosch university in 1997. She graduated as a qualified Biokinetist in 2000. During her Honours year she completed her spinning and Personal training qualification through ETA. She also qualified as a CALA hydrotherapy instructor. After a year of Biokinetics internship at 2 Military Hospital she went on to complete Renee Watsons Conscious Movement Education Pilates Mat and Equipment Diploma in 2001. She also completed Body Technology Pilates Mat and Equipment course with Andrea Oloefse.
Whilst working at Renee Watson Pilates studio she went on to specialize in Pregnancy, elderly and injury rehabilitation. In 2004 she completed her Injuries and Special Populations training with Stott Pilates. During 2007 she completed a six month introduction to Metaphysical study through Met varsity. She has also done Reiki one and two foundations.
Amanda is a Master Pilates Lecturer for Renee Watson’s Conscious Movement education Courses. She is passionate about educating other instructors and clients to lead a more balanced lifestyle with specific emphasis on wellness and holistic health. She uses a technique called Muscle activation in conjunction with her Pilates and Biokinetics knowledge to assists people to Re-Balance both body and mind.
Re-Balance is a small intimate studio working in conjunction with the Optimum Lifestyle Team in order to achieve better health and wellness. We believe in an integrated approach to holistic health using Pilates and other modalities as a tool to improve quality of life, increase functional strength, better posture, improve flexibility, lower stress levels and enjoy uninhibited movement. This enables us to assess your strengths and areas that may need specific attention. During these private sessions you will learn the basic Pilates principles.

What to expect
Kelly runs a private practice but charges medical aid rates based on the time spent with you. Although she does not handle medical aid claims herself, Kelly’s invoicing format allows for you to claim back after you have settled your account.
If an individualised eating plan is required, a second appointment is made after the initial assessment. The first meeting is about getting to know you and understanding your goals. Kelly will ask about your medical history and take some measurements, including weight and height, which are necessary for the calculation of an eating plan. It is helpful to bring details of your medical history to this meeting, where relevant, including any recent blood test results and details of medication and supplements. If you require new blood tests then Kelly will arrange referral to Path Care.
The second appointment is scheduled a few days later to allow for calculation and planning of the diet, which will be explained at that meeting. It is your choice how you would like to proceed from there. Follow up appointments after the first two meetings are encouraged to assess progress with the plan, especially where significant lifestyle change is required. A commitment of 8 regular weekly follow ups is usually a good start. Shorter sessions are charged accordingly. Continuous support and education is very helpful when it comes to changing habits and staying motivated.
